A musical encounter of and about our planet, which was referred to as a “Pale Blue Dot” by Carl Sagan

Under the direction of Sarah Frook Gallo, we present “The Pale Blue Dot” with orchestra. This program introduces you to a musical encounter of and about our planet, which was referred to as a “Pale Blue Dot” by Carl Sagan in his book of the same name. This comment was inspired by an image taken, at Sagan’s suggestion, by Voyager 1 on February 14, 1990. As the spacecraft left our planetary neighborhood for the fringes of the solar system, engineers turned it around for one last look at its home planet.

We are also presenting a composition entitled “I Am Voyager” by Robin Salkeld, which memorializes these words in the song’s lyrics. Our concert will introduce you to two new works commissioned in part by our Society, “Partial Lunar Eclipse, Sept 7th, 2006” by Lori Laitman and “That’s One Small Step” by Tawnie Olson.

There will be 12 additional selections reflecting the beauty of our earth from near and far. We will also feature our scholarship winners. This will be an enjoyable concert, so bring the whole family.
